How it works

  1. 1. Paste your roster. One student name per line, or comma-separated — works with a full class list.
  2. 2. Set your group size. Choose the number of groups you need, or set an exact number of students per group for lab stations or project teams.
  3. 3. Generate & reshuffle. Get an instant, unbiased split. If a group needs adjusting, hit Shuffle Again for a brand-new random draw.

Frequently asked questions

How do I randomly assign students to groups without bias?

Paste your full class roster (one name per line), pick the number of groups or students per group, and click Generate Groups. The shuffle is random every time, so no student is ever favored or left out on purpose.

Can I control exact group size, like 4 students per lab group?

Yes — switch to "People per team" mode and set it to 4. The tool will split your roster into groups of exactly that size, with any remainder in the last group.

Does this work for large classes with 30+ students?

Yes, there's no limit on the number of names — paste your entire roster and it splits instantly, which is much faster than assigning groups by hand or drawing names from a hat.

A group has a conflict — can I reshuffle?

Yes, click "Shuffle Again" for a fresh random split of the same roster in one click, no retyping needed.

Is student data stored anywhere?

No. Names are processed entirely in your browser and are never uploaded, logged, or saved — nothing to worry about from a student-privacy standpoint.
